It’s the unofficial last day of fashion month (?), and yes, there was a lot of real fur on the runways this season. Some “trend forecasters” are saying that fur is loud, that the new thing will be to make a big, booming entrance dripping with sable and yellow gold, that quiet luxury is dead, that we’re quickly entering an age of ostentation.
Sure, maybe in a superficial way, outfits will get more glittery than last year’s, but I’m not seeing a loudness (as in big branding, logomania, statement dressing) trend as much as further refinement of the essentialist idea.
Fur is a perfect example of giving credence to materiality over anything else. It is by definition quiet because it does not say a designer’s name. A brand can’t quite own rabbit or mink as a signature because that belongs to the creature who wore it first.
