Earlier this month I went to a talk at the Hotel Chelsea presented by MacDowell on the legacy of James Baldwin, who was a resident of the New Hampshire campus thrice between 1954 and 60. It was introduced by the author of FSG’s forthcoming Baldwin: A Love Story, who has so far stayed at MacDowell three times as well. The discussion portion, moderated by Marlon James, was between Bill T. Jones and Lucy Liu on her birthday (she blew out candles on a black-frosted cake after the whole room sang). On the press release, Liu’s latest credit is a holiday movie co-starring Dwayne Johnson and Chris Evans, listed right under Jones’s MacArthur “Genius” grant and Officier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres award. Highlights were when she said “the body keeps the score” and he said the N-word.
