On Friday, I’m participating in a Burns Night reading hosted by Substack, with Alex Auder, Chris Gayomali, Emily Kirkpatrick, Emily Sundberg, Jason Diamond, Jenny Rosenstrach, JP Brammer, and Nate Silver. It’s already sold out (free, with limited seating) but I think these things are always under-attended, so join the waitlist and show up if you want to. I have no idea what I’m going to read as of yet. What do I hate enough to complain about it for five minutes? Myself?
Last Thursday, I attended a panel at Amant, closing Jenna Bliss’s show there, with the artist, the two hosts of True Anon, and Ivan Gaytan. It’s so difficult to get one of these right and this was a breath of fresh air, funny and poignant but unrehearsed, discussing the meanings of conspiracy and subjective reality, with audience questions from people like Joshua Citarella, who was on a date. Afterward, a Winter Cozy pizza and Brûlot Diabolique stout at Grimm a few blocks away.
The next night, MoMA to see the Thomas Schütte show before it closed, and “The Clock,” but it was at capacity for the evening. A martini and some oysters at the Grand Central Oyster Bar, then a quick train to a late reservation at Borgo. I love the working fireplace. I should be prioritizing bars with fireplaces now, like the one at the Marlton Hotel. It would be great to have a definitive list of these!
