Subscribe to Selling Out

I send out about a newsletter a week, often more, the better part of which is paywalled. Become a paid subscriber to get the gossip, the argument, the vulnerable thoughts—basically, anything beyond self-promotion and random recommendations. If you’re unsure from the previews and would like to know more about me, maybe start by reading my books:
Surveys (2016)
Sleeveless (2019)
Artless (2023)
or a review:
Jane Yong Kim on Surveys (LA Times)
Rachel Syme on Sleeveless (Bookforum)
Ann Manov on Artless (Bookforum)
James Deusterberg on all three (The Point)
Books and magazine articles don’t pay the bills, though, and I live in Manhattan. To support my preferred lifestyle, I write every day for brands. By that I mean strategy, identity, press, social, internal, ads, and anything else someone in charge assumes I can handle. By now, my CV looks like a text-only version of a glossy magazine’s front pages.
I’ve signed the usual NDAs saying I wouldn’t promote my participation in such projects, but message me and I’ll give you a list, if you’re interested. It’s a lot of luxury fashion, fragrance, and beauty, some mid-tier brands, several galleries and museums, a couple social media platforms, a bank, a bar, a sex toy company, etc.
As you can see, I’ve already Sold Out, but there’s always further to go. Let’s see how long I can keep my integrity relatively intact while charging $5/month (or the low, low price of $4.17 when you pay for a whole year) to let you read my running thoughts on literature, life, cinema, the culture, the city, travel, and, of course, advertising.
